RED HAT QUEEN’S GATHERING - SEPT. 2, 2009

This Queen’s Gathering held at Luigi’s Restaurant on Mayor Magrath Dr. S. had 16 Queen’s attending.  As this is a new venture, we are hoping more will take advantage in future.
We do need at least 15 to attend, otherwise we will be requested to pay $50.00 for the room.
Lunch of soup and a variety of sandwiches are $12.60 which includes GST and drink of coffee, tea, or pop.  We do hope more of you will be interested in attending these Queen’s Gathering’s in future.

Reporting on past Events:

STRAWBERRY TEA:
  Queen Clydine of the Host  chapter Prairie Angels  said;
“Due  to inclement weather in out lying areas, (although weather co operated in Arrowwood) the numbers were down.  150 ladies did attend this event and from all reports had a great time!  The Duck Drop was a really big hit.   The entertaining vocalist  was wonderful! It was with special interest that she attended a contest later that evening and won 4 awards.”

 VICTORIAN STROLL:
Queen Mum Sandy of the Host Chapter Chief Mountain So. Belles said; This was once again an excellent event for us, the weather was perfect and many ladies arrived in new Victorian Dresses for this 2nd Annual Stroll.
She stated there was some confusion about the “Free Red Hat Mice Draw” as ladies from
Calgary set up to sell tickets for Lady Helen’s Red Hat she wore for opening night of Calgary Roundup.  The monies from these tickets, with the draw to be held Oct. 31st, are to help defray costs for Calgary.
Therefore, with their enthusiasm our little mice seemed to be overlooked.  In future there will be no outside interference allowed.  This is strictly a NO COST EVENT with FREE entry for the Mice Draw and a delightful stroll of beautiful, elegant Red Hatters.
If not taken by surprise, it would never have happened and we of the Chief Mountain So. Belles are so sorry and apologize for the confusion.

It was fun to have the Red Hat Ladies from Holy Hattitudes bring a huge cake to help celebrate the birthday of two of their ladies and share this cake with all Victorian Strollers.

We must also apologize for an uncalled for attack upon some Red Hat Ladies in regard to Supporting Membership.  This was not the place for such a discussion and it did upset many ladies causing them to leave early which was a shame as a representative of the Lethbridge Herald arrived to take a picture of the group of us and those ladies leaving early regretfully were not included.
Yes, it was a public event and there is such a thing as “freedom of speech” but it was in very poor taste!

With the pleasure of this event still echoing, Queen Lady Godiva Helen asked about having old fashioned games at the next stroll and with all in attendance agreeing that would be fun and Queen Marlene of Biddy & Tarts offered to take on the task. Queen Mum Sandy to discuss the possibility with her Chapterettes.

It was suggested getting in touch with Lethbridge Living Magazine to see if the gal that did the interview last fall of 5 of our Queens would be interested in doing a spread again about our Victorian Stroll next year.  All Queen’s in agreement and QM Sandy to pursue the possibilities.

The 3rd Annual Victorian Stroll will be held June 26, 2010.

CARDSTON HERITAGE DAYS PARADE: Hosted by Queen Julia and Klassy Crimson Hatters.  Unfortunately, Q. Julia unable to attend this gathering so all those that did told these Queen’s all about the fun it was on a huge float decorated with red and purple and all the 41 Red Hat Ladies riding upon bales of straw and throwing candy.  They won First Place Prize in their class with  $100.00 in cash and a certificate of honor!  After the parade they had a wonderful lunch those gals put together with many door prizes, singing, line dancing and all ladies headed home with a beaded book mark!  Everything reported was with praise for a very talented Red Hat Chapter!

VULCAN BBQ: Queen Myrtle and her Vulcan Trekkie Troopers said; “She was very pleased with her turnout of 117 Red Hatters, excellent food, door prizes and a Ventriloquist to entertain with Queen Clydine participating in one of her acts.  So cute and one would have thought Q. Clydine had a script to follow so well did she “ham it up”!  Nanton Red Bommer Biddies presented a hilarious “Quirky” Fashion Show to the delight of the audience.

DISCUSSIONS:
 About the “Crown Jewels”
About remaining Red Hat Society Chapter Members.
Paying/not paying the Supporting Membership Fee.
 Belonging to both groups.

This is personal and voluntary. The fact remains, to belong to the Red Hat Society as a Chapter, each Queen and member must pay the supporting membership fee of $20.00 American funds.

The final decision being that no one can tell you what to do, therefore there will be no  further discussion at this Queen’s Gathering in the future.  It is a dead subject with Red Hatters that matter and are true to The Red Hat Society for the enjoyment we receive as members.

Q.M.Sandy had two Red Hat Society Books to pass on to other Red Hatters with the request to pass them on to others interested in reading them.

Styrofoam Heads are at present being sold at Value Village for $3.95 each.
Suggestions to keep them from falling over:
1.Glue to the lid of a gallon jar filled with dry beans for stability.
  2. Hollow out the bottom of the head and put over a heavy candle holder.

THE NEXT QUEEN’S GATHERING WILL BE NOV. 4, 2009
To be held once again at Luigi’s with same cost of $12.60
PLEASE contact Q.M. Sandy a week before the event if you are going to   attend so there will be a place set and a meal for you.

THANK YOU for a good gathering if heated at times.

 In Fun & Hilarity,
 Queen Mum Sandy
